Douglas Adams Predicted It

In the Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe, all the dolphins disappear from the Earth knowing it is about to be destroyed. I'm thinking the bees know something we don't.

Ooooh. I think I've figured it out. The original colonist of Earth only leased the planet. The Mayans, being descendants of the original bookkeeper, knew the lease would be up in 2012. In 2012, the owners of planet plan to demolish it to make a new, more luxurious series of smaller planets (town planets, if you will, or condoplanetiums) - promoting a lifestyle more than just living.
The bees (and probably several other species we haven't been watching) have been leaving the planet by their own means.
So, we have to go to the planning office in Alpha Centauri and get a copy of the lease and fight the eviction.

Douglas Adams saw it all but slightly skewered!

Homesick

I'm feeling homesick I think.
I stumbled on a youtube page called "Ask a Newfie Question Get a Newfie Answer" and while I'm not from Newfoundland, the accent is close enough to home that I just got a pang of nostalgia.
I'm missing family and close friends. I'm missing the relationships where you just show up on someone's door and are invited in for a cup of tea and a chat. No pressure, no scheduling, no agenda.
Everything since Edmonton has been to reliant on planning to get together instead of just getting together.
I think I'd like to go home and just crash on the sofa with the cat on my lap and the dog at my feet and listen to my Mum and sister snark at each other.

Tired of Disappointments

My life for the last few years have been one disappointment after another, some little some large.
I've been disappointed by some people's behaviour, by events in my life, by my own behaviour.
It is really draining on the spirit and causes this constant dull ache. I can't say I'm apathetic about it all but I do wish I were. I have almost stopped trying and trying to stop caring but I'm a victim of Pandora's last little monster out of the box: hope.
It is so stupid but as much as I verbalize pessimism, in my heart I'm hoping for the best - with all my heart.

I could really do with something wonderful happening to me.

New To Me

For years I have read about British punks wearing "Bovver" boots. I thought it was a name for a type of engineer boot or an especially heavy soled Doc Martin. I found out yesterday from my prim British co-worker that the name comes from the managed dialect of the British working class, i.e. "Oim gawnna cauz a bit o'bovver tanite."

If you need that translated: "I'm going to cause a bit of a bother tonight."

Dear Bell Sympatico

Stopping slowing down my internet connection!!!!!!
In these days of on-line gaming, streaming radio and video and hell, even youtube, I'm going to be using the bandwidth I am paying for. You randomly slowing down my internet connection just makes me very very angry and pissed off to the point we are going to change our service provider. It should not take 5 minutes to download a 1 minute youtube video. I can not describe how annoying it is to be playing Warcraft to suddenly have my framerate drop to 5 frames and stay there - especially in the middle of a battle.
So Sympatico, here's the deal - either you put my connection speed back to where it should be and leave it there or you lose a customer who has internet, mobile and home phone service through you. Your choice.

My Cups Runneth Over

Tonight TBIT and I went shopping for something to wear to his office Christmas party. While I had in mind just a little camisole thingy under a blouse or sweater, Sears was having a big sale on dresses. It's been a while since I had a nice party dress and 50% off the regular price (today only) is right up my alley. So I found 3 dresses I rather liked and went to try them on. Well, they almost fit or they fit overall but not in one particular area. Whomever designed these dresses didn't have my torso in mind and well, teh boobies were barely contained. My girls were so compressed together all I could think was "there's a plumber down my front." Buying a size up would mean the dress didn't fit well elsewhere so needless to say, no party dress for me.
Tomorrow, I resume the search for a camisole thingy and blouse or sweater...

Hello Mr. Splashypants

So Greenpeace had a vote set up to name a whale, I guess to get the public involved/interested in whales now that the Japanese have launched another "research" whaling team. This "research" involves killing whales considered endangered and the research material (a.k.a. whale meat) will probably show up on supermarket shelves or be fed to school children so they develop a taste for it.

So having the public name a whale gets them to feel a personal interest in that whale. Of course, the typical ethnic names were on the list but, of course, the whimsical internet just had to go for the laugh. I wonder if Greenpeace will honour the vote or just take a more "serious" name but just imagine how terrible it would feel to read "Mr. Splashypants Slaughtered by Japanese Whaling Expedition".

Meomi Takes Over the World

Vicki has been doing incredible graphic design for years and I have always gotten a vicarious thrill seeing her work celebrated.
