December 24, 2003 Okay, I admit it. I am a huge sap for the "magic of Christmas" deal. I absolutely love that NORAD tracks Santa's sleigh and has press releases discussing sleigh test runs a week before Christmas. I love that volunteers in post offices all over the world help Santa answer Christmas letters. There is just something so...whimsical about it all that it puts a big goofy grin on my face. And I still believe in the sentiments expressed in the letter to Virginia. Some years it is harder than others, but yeah, I guess I still believe in Santa Claus.

December 23, 2003 Well, I had a very special TTC experience on my way to work today.
There are a number of buses that run along Eglinton Ave: 34, 51, 54, 56 and 100. To get to work I have the option of taking the 51 or the 54. This afternoon I hopped on the 54 and settled in for the ride. The 54 travels along Eglinton then turns onto Leslie but as I sat and watched, the bus didn't turn. It kept going merrily along Eglinton. My first thought was: "Ahhh, don't tell me I got on a 34 by mistake." Then I saw the other passengers around me looked as perplexed as I felt. One lady asked the driver "Don't you turn up Leslie any more?" To which the driver groaned and pulled over to the side of the road, near the Celestica turn off. He announced to the entire bus "Sorry, folks. I have been driving the 34 for the past 6 weeks. Today is my first day on the 54. I was on autopilot." He then called TTC control and spoke with them. So, the bus continued down Eglinton, heading for Don Mills. I hoped he would pull a U-turn or use the Celestica turnoff to head back to Leslie, anything! Instead the bus battled traffic and pulled onto Don Mills. I walked up and explained to the driver that I had to be on Barber Greene, closer to Leslie than Don Mills West (where we were heading). He apologized but said he had to be on Lawrence, that he can't go back to Leslie. He dropped me off at Overland and in the pouring, pouring rain, I walked the rest of the way to work to arrive 20 minutes late and soaking.
TTC owes me big time for that one.
